Why write a book on offset printing?

By: Rolf Hansson

My career in the graphical production area started in a book bindery. That was a good place for learning how to handle paper and how it behaves. After some years I changed to printing. That was a tricky job! The utmost challenge was how to avoid tinting and scumming. When I now and then succeeded, I realized that offset technology can give good printing results though its complexity. The understanding of this relation have followed me ever since.

In order to lift good printing to a level of excellence you need skilled craftsmen with deep knowledge of the interactions between all compo-nents of the offset process. The skill is developed in daily work but demands an active interest in finding the best solutions for creating good print results. To get further, theoretical knowledge is essential. This is my mission.

As I did not find any education material that suited my training courses I had to create it myself .

The book Offset Printing – Controlled Process, has its origin in many years educational work in print rooms and schools, both on a basic level and in printing technology courses in universities. The original Swedish editions have so far been successful and the step to spread the knowledge in a wider area was  quite natural.

Offset Printing – Controlled Process is available from Amazon (hardcover and paperback) and HP Magcloud (paperback).
